Russell McCloud, Founder The History of Its ONLY SociaL, dates back to the Spring/Summer of 2002. During that time, I did lots of cookouts, and gatherings because networking is what I enjoy.
I decided to name the organization Its ONLY SociaL, because this is basically what the organization is about; and that is being social. Some of you have asked, why spell the name this way. Well, besides being a matter of preference, it also serves as a signature for Its ONLY SociaL. The Name and spelling catches the eye and curiosity.
In 2002, I decided to take this organization to Grant Park, and with the help of good friends, we sold $5.00 plates of food. The remaining food was giving to the homeless folks who gathered and lived in Woodruff Park, or the shelters in the area. Woodruff Park is located next to the Atlanta Underground.
Needless to say, this was a memorable and touching moment. My world suddenly shifted, and I came to look at myself, and finally realized, this is my calling. The Organization needed a mission and legal structure before my calling could fully be realized. I decided to get some friends together, and create a mission statement, and form a legal structure. To make a long story short, my time line to get this organization legally up and running, was not agreed upon. So, I decided to test the theory behind the organization. The theory was; If we have networking events, and offered educational and awareness activities. At the same time, calling it a Fundraiser and providing community service by assisting the homeless, and others who are deprived, would people come?
At this moment our mission statement was written.
In 2003, Its ONLY SociaL had three events, and all three proved my theory correct. Yes people will come.
We had to overcome some obstacles. Which were Non-profit Incorporation, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, Donors, Recipients, Members and Volunteers. These expectations had to be met. So I decided to take all of 2004, and just get this organization legally off the ground. This has been completed. We are a Non-Profit Charity Organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. We have scheduled Fundraising events, which will produce Donors and Recipients.
We are currently in the process of soliciting Members and Volunteers.
The main core of this organization is the people who attend the events, like you. So, we are more concerned with people supporting us by attending some, if not all our events.
